Poem: Vengeance is a Dish

Vengeance
is a dish best served cold.
Why is that?
Because it is planned,
calculated
and seemingly more rational?
Because it can take
days, months, years
decades
for it to bear fruit?

Vengeance
is a dish best sweet.
Why is that?
Because it can take
days, months, years
decades
for it to bear fruit?
Aged like fine wine
for a darker palate?

Vengeance
is misnamed both sweet and cold.
Why is that?
It still stems
from an emotional core.
Just because it is not 'hot'
from rage
doesn't make it more logical.
And that tart taste
turns to ash in your mouth.
