Poem: The Nightly Chorus

The crickets
the owl
and the nightingale
all raise their voices
as the sun goes down
and the moon shows its face
the bullfrog
provides the bass
the wolf
sings in the tenor
the singers may not
know each other
but somehow
their song becomes one
the disparate voices
find a common melody
a harmony of night singing
 that lasts until dawn
