Poem" The Day After

At one point
it was okay to pretend
that everything was going
to be all right.
The blinders have been lifted
things are real.
Reality has hit
and history has repeated.
I see
a possible bonfire
my kids' futures
suddenly turn to ash
and slip through my fingers
but I refuse to give up
I refuse to give in
But I will not curl up and die.
There are still good people
in this world
We need to stick together.
The dawn will rise once more.
